Omega 3 fatty acids during pregnancy improve child intelligence

Taking a supplement containing Omega-3 fatty acids, like Pharmaton® Matruelle, during pregnancy and while breastfeeding has been shown to improve a child’s intelligence when compared to children whose mothers didn’t take it. This graph shows the impact on 4 year old children.

341 pregnant women were recruited at week 18 of pregnancy to take either Omega-3 fatty acids or corn oil until 3 months after delivery. Children who were born from mothers who had taken Omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy and breastfeeding scored higher on measurement of child's intelligence (a Mental Processing Composite Test) at 4 years of age as compared with children whose mothers had taken corn oil.

Maternal intake of Omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy and breastfeeding is favourable for children´s growing brain development and is an essential ingredient within Pharmaton® Matruelle.
