Pharmaton® Vitality combats symptoms caused by fatigue, tiredness, exhaustion, ageing and convalescence associated with decreased mental capacity, alertness, concentration and memory. It is also appropriate when stress, poor diet and illness impose additional demands on nutrition and when vitamins and mineral supplementation is needed.

Ginseng G115® influences your body’s use of energy - thus reducing daily fatigue - mainly as a consequence of the increased capacity for oxygen uptake. The extract also acts on the central nervous system and helps minimise stress, physical and mental tension. Furthermore, Ginseng G115® positively influences and strengthens the immune system.

Dosage: The recommended daily dosage is 1 effervescent tablet. The effervescent tablet should be taken dissolved in a glass of water with food, preferably at breakfast.

Composition

Pharmaton® Vitality active ingredients (please check the composition according to the formulation available in your country):

Standardised ginseng extract G115®

Intensive analytical-, preclinical- and clinical- research has been carried out during the last 30 years to study the quality, efficacy and safety of the standardised Ginseng extract G115®. 54 preclinical studies have been published on G115® and 46 clinical studies have been published on Pharmaton® Vitality.

The standardised Ginseng extract G115® influences positively the body resistance against infections, stress and fatigue, mainly as a consequence of an increased immune response, enhanced utilization of the energy in brain and muscles, and body cells protection against free radicals damages. Several species and qualities of Ginseng exist. In Pharmaton® Vitality the standardised Panax ginseng, C.A. Meyer extract G115® is used. The manufacturing method of the standardised Ginseng extract G115® is proprietary of Pharmaton SA and grants that every batch of capsules of Pharmaton® Vitality has the same level of active principles. The pharmacological, clinical effects and the safety of the standardised Ginseng extract G115® can not be extrapolated to other Ginseng extracts or Ginseng products.

  • Ginseng G115® in Pharmaton® Vitality

The standardisation for the G115® Ginseng extract used in Pharmaton® Vitality caplets to provide you with an identical effectiveness of each capsule includes:

    • The use of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer
    • Partnership with farmers to help ensure the best growing conditions
    • Training of farmers in the correct use of natural fertilizers and fungicides and for the application of other good agricultural practices
    • Analysis of botanical and physical characteristics of the ginseng roots, as well as quantification of ginsenosides and control of potential impurities.
    • Quality of the roots. As a crop, the quality of ginseng roots can vary from one farm to another, and even from one harvest to another. Without proper quality-assurance guidelines, contamination with toxic chemicals and pesticides is also possible. Today, due to extensive efforts in working with farmers and supervising the cultivation and harvesting processes, almost 90% of incoming Ginseng batches meet our high Pharmaton® standards.
    • Standardisation. Every batch of G115® Ginseng extract has the same known and consistent level of the main active constituents. While many other Ginseng products have been shown to vary greatly in ginsenosides content (and a few to have no ginsenosides at all), G115® always contains 4% ginsenosides.

    • Analytical controls. Validated analytical methods by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) are used to control the standardisation of the G115® Ginseng extract. The microbiological quality and the possible presence of impurities are always controlled.

Pharmaton® Vitality is the only product that combines the benefits of the standardised Ginseng G115® with other essential ingredients such as vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

  • The secret of Ginseng

Ginseng contains several unique active ingredients not found in any other plant. The most important substances with medicinal properties are called ginsenosides, referring to the name of the plant. Chemically several ginsenosides exist and are classified in different groups, all of which contain an "R" in their name. Each ginsenoside has its own special property and effect. The ginsenosides Rg1 and Rb1 are considered the most important to explain the general mode of action of Ginseng. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the interplay of the two ginsenosides creates the harmonic balance between Yin (passivity, darkness, slowness) and Yang (activity, light, quickness). Rb1 has the ability to calm the human organism at times of stress and agitation. Rg1, on the other hand, increases performance, speeds up reactions and has a positive effect in cases of physical exhaustion and illness.

  • The combination makes the difference

While the ginsenosides play an extremely important role in the medicinal action of Ginseng, several other compounds, particularly some types of sugars, work together with the ginsenosides to provide an optimal activity. Therefore the whole extract has an activity that is superior to that of the individual components. In addition, the Ginseng root contains other essential ingredients such as vitamins, minerals and trace elements which have additional important effects on the human body.

  • The history of Ginseng

For more than 2,000 years, Ginseng has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine as a cure-all. Today, the stimulating effect of Ginseng is still believed to restore inner strength - CH´i. In ancient times it was thought to be a royal plant and was used only by kings. It was literally worth its weight in gold.

  • The popularity of Ginseng

The origin of the word Ginseng is Chinese: "Jen Shen" means "The power of earth in human shape". Ginseng has been the source of a number of myths and legends. In China the plant is still known as the "man root", in Korea as the "root of life" or "human root", and in Japan it is held in such high regard that it is called "wonder of the universe".

  • Ginseng goes west

The Ginseng root turned up several times in the West only to be forgotten again. The first time, Moorish sailors brought it to Spain during the 1st century. In 1642, it was re-discovered by the explorer Alvaro Samedo and then later by 17th-century Dutch sailors. It was only in the 20th century, however, that Ginseng was finally acknowledged as a medicinal plant, when its effects could be tested and documented by scientific methods.

  • Species of Ginseng

Ginseng is not all the same. Within the plant genus Panax there are several species, all of which have different properties. Known species related to Panax Ginseng C.A. Meyer are Panax quinquefolius (the American Ginseng), Panax notoginseng, Panax japonicus, Panax trifolius and Panax vietnamensis. The most studied with pharmacological trials is the specie Panax Ginseng, contained in Pharmaton® Vitality. Eleutherococcus senticosus (also called Siberian Ginseng) belongs to the same family (the Araliaceae) and shares some common traits with Panax Ginseng, the Asian Ginseng.

  • Important components in Ginseng

The main active ingredients of the Ginseng root are the so-called "ginsenosides" (belonging to the chemical class of triterpene saponins), but other substances (e.g. some sugars and polysaccharides) are also active. The active substances enter the blood stream and are distributed throughout the body and are thus able to exert a beneficial action on our total health system. The cultivation, processing and storage of the Ginseng roots have to fulfil many criteria. To supply an effective product, it has to contain an appropriate concentration of ginsenosides. Various factors affect the ginsenoside content in the roots: the state of the soil, the age of the plant, the time of harvesting and the conditions of storage.

    Why standardisation is so important

Standardisation ensures that the extract always contains exactly the same amount of pharmacological active substances - a basic requirement for a constant effect of the finished product and for clinical studies.

The extraction method is a crucial factor for the composition of the extract. In extracts produced by different extraction methods different compounds may be present in varying concentrations. Thus, the pharmacological activity of an extract mainly depends on the extraction method used.

When choosing a herbal supplement brand, remember that you are buying an extract, not a plant. A common misperception is that all products containing the same plant must be the same.

Consider, for example, the winemaking process. A wine produced by a company on the east side of a hill might taste dramatically different from one produced by another company on the west side of the same hill. The same potential holds true for herbal medicinal products. Many variables can change according to growing conditions, harvesting and manufacturing differences. In order to control for these variables, the extract contained in Pharmaton® Vitality is standardised according to a high quality process.

What can we do to avoid the problems of inconsistent extracts? Simple. Buy a brand such as Pharmaton® Vitality, which is manufactured using the standardised Ginseng extract G115®, prepared according to strict guidelines to ensure exact standardisation. You can be assured that the product you take is the same as the one tested in several clinical studies. Pharmaton® Vitality contains the most clinically tested Ginseng extract in the world and has proven safety and efficacy - do not accept substitutes!

    Standardisation begins with cultivation

To ensure that Pharmaton® Vitality’s high quality standards are always maintained, the cultivation of Ginseng is regularly controlled by Pharmaton® Vitality’s experts.

    Selection of the raw material

The Ginseng roots of appropriate age are carefully cleaned and dried in a natural way, and undergo physical and organoleptic controls. The individual ginsenosides in the roots are identified and measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

    Analysis

The roots undergo complete physical, chemical and microbiological analysis before they are released for extraction and standardisation.

    Extraction method

The extraction process developed by Pharmaton® Vitality is known only to the company and is ideal for extracting all medicinally relevant components from the plant. The extraction is performed using a hydroalcoholic solvent (ethanol/water).

    Concentration and sterilisation

The liquid extract is concentrated and sterilised (UHT treatment), then the dry native extract is prepared by spray-drying.

    Quality Controls

Before the dry native extract is released for standardisation, the individual ginsenoside content is measured and checked for quality. Furthermore, the extract undergoes through physical, chemical and microbiological controls.

    Standardisation

Standardisation: the total content of ginsenosides is adjusted to 4%. The standardised G115® Ginseng extract is born!

    Final Controls

Complete quality controls of the standardised G115® Ginseng extract. Release for production. Quality controls of the finished products containing G115®.

  • How can you be sure of no contamination?

As a crop, the quality of Ginseng roots can vary significantly from one farm to another, and even from one harvest to another. Without proper quality-assurance guidelines, contamination with chemicals and pesticides is possible. However, today, due to our extensive efforts in working with farmers and supervising the cultivation and harvesting processes, almost 90% of incoming ginseng batches meet our high Pharmaton® Vitality standards.

  • Does Pharmaton® Vitality interact with other medication?

As with many other medicines, an assessment of benefits versus risks should be made before Pharmaton® Vitality is administered during this time. According to general medical practice, the use of this product by pregnant or breastfeeding women should be decided by the prescribing doctor. Alternatively, Pharmaton® Matruelle, a unique combination of multivitamins and minerals with Omega-3 fatty acids is an excellent alternative and targeted choice for this group.

  • Are there any known allergies to Pharmaton® Vitality?

Some people may have developed known allergies towards any of the components of the product. The composition of the product should therefore be studied carefully and in the case of known allergies, your doctor’s opinion should be sought before taking Pharmaton® Vitality.

  • Can Pharmaton® Vitality cause nausea?

Very rarely, nausea after intake of Pharmaton® Vitality has sometimes been reported. We believe that this problem may be caused by a temporary or permanent hypersensitivity to the gelatine contained in the capsule shell. This, however, sets in generally after the first intake; it is often transient and subsides after a short period of treatment. If it persists, then we usually advise the consumer to stop taking the capsules.
